Welcome to the 6th edition of the Portland Pig Backyard Ultra.

This year's event is a Bronze Ticket event.

The Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon where competitors must consecutively run a distance of 6,706 metres (4.167 miles) in less than one hour.

When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is typically used to recover before starting all over again on the next hour.

If you're going to give a Backyard Ultra a go in 2027, you won't be disappointed with our version of the little fun run.

The Portland Pig - Backyard Ultra

Starting on the hour, every hour, until you are the last one standing over a course of 4.167 miles, you say?!?!

We know. We get that this isn't everyone's cup of tea, we really do. However, if it is, then where else would you get to run past 2 prisons, 1 set of Olympic Rings, a cricket club, 2 stone quarries with carvings to behold, 1 Olympic sailing venue, beach views to die for, a wallaby farm, alpacas, Portland sheep and some high-angle batteries from 1892?

Don't think we've missed anything!

This course has it all - grass, gravel, track, tarmac and pavement - you name it, you run on it. OK, don't name it... there is no beach or water jumps!

But what do you get?

A fully marked route which you will become VERY familiar with over time.

Camping on site is included in your entry for you and 2 crew, including motorhomes (no caravans).

You'll also get a stunning DNF medal for those who tried but failed, great support all weekend, full chip timing, medic cover, plus all the usual stuff you'd expect from a BustinSkin event - amazing marshals, words of advice about your life choices, a no-nonsense race brief and plenty of encouragement along the way.

Plus, if you're good enough, the winner will receive a bespoke, one-off winner's memento hand-carved from Portland stone.

Marathon distance?
7 loops and you're done. Chill out, drink wine and annoy the others.

100 miles?
24 loops. Drop out, sleep, eat and support the others with helpful words such as:

'Seemed a good idea at Christmas.'
'Not long now.'
'It's just running - how hard can it be?'

Or be creative and use your own.

200 miles?
48 loops - or 'Yards' as the experts call them. They say you can't do it, so why not prove them all wrong?

Going until there's only you?
Well, that takes some mental agility and a body of steel.

FAQs

Camping: Your entry includes camping on site for you and 2 crew.

Food and drink: Hot and cold water will be available on site. All runners must bring all food required and be self-sufficient for the duration of the event.

Electric hook-up: All camping pitches are non-hook-up pitches.

Toilets: Toilets will be provided.

Outside assistance: No outside assistance to runners of any kind is accepted.

Running/walking poles: Not permitted.

Fire pits: No wood-burning open fire pits.

Age Restrictions

Age restrictions in accordance with UK Athletics Rules apply to this event.

You MUST be 20 or over on race day to compete beyond 45km. Competitors aged 18/19 can only run a maximum distance of 45km.

Don't leave it too late

Entries close when the race reaches its limit or the published closing date, whichever comes first. Don't wait until that day to enter as we may sell out.

Due to the nature of sporting events, we strongly advise taking out Refund Protect insurance should you suffer an injury or other covered circumstance and can no longer take part.
